St Vincent de Paul Society

The St Vincent de Paul Society (or as it is often known - the SVP) is an international Christian organisation. Catholic in origin and character it is dedicated to helping anyone in need. The concept of need is broadly based, so visiting the sick, the lonely, the addicted and those suffering from disabilities form a large proportion of the Society's work.

Our work mainly involves visiting people in their own homes, nursing homes, or hospital and providing transport whenever we can. Occasionally we are asked to give financial assistance e.g. board and lodging for homeless/travellers, help with providing essential equipment or furnishings.

We support the local ecumenical effort to provide food for the needy. We help organise a Service for the Sick each year and provide an afternoon tea for them afterwards. We also try to take the elderly/housebound on a trip each year. This year we will be taking a group to Mount St. Bernard's Abbey for a visit with a cream tea. We also organise a Christmas gift for the elderly of the parish and are grateful to the Eucharistic Ministers who help us with distribution.

One of our members runs the Senior Citizen Luncheon Club

Meetings
We meet (usually) on the first Monday of each month in the Presbytery at 7pm. In addition to our monthly meetings we also have occasional Spiritual Evenings in our own homes.

Please, come and join us - there is always room for another member of our group.
